How to start a WhatsApp marketing business in India
Indian businesses increasingly want to sell, support and remind customers on WhatsApp — and most don't want to learn the WhatsApp Business API themselves. This guide walks through how to turn that into a business of your own: which model to choose, what it costs to start, how to price, what compliance involves and how to land your first clients.
Silver, Gold and Platinum from ₹4,999/month · client accounts at 40–50% off list · every tier white-label · excl. 18% GST
Step 1: Choose your business model
There are four ways to build a WhatsApp marketing business on Botify, and the right one depends on whether you want to invoice clients yourself and carry your own brand.
- Affiliate — refer businesses and earn 10% of their plan for 12 months. No investment; Botify does the rest.
- Certified Partner — free training and certification; you sell, set up and support clients, Botify bills them, and you earn a 15–20% recurring margin plus your own service fees.
- White-label / Reseller — your own brand, domain and prices; you buy client accounts at 40–50% off list and invoice clients under your GSTIN. Platform fee from ₹4,999 a month.
- District Franchise — an exclusive district with a 30% recurring revenue share, from ₹1,00,000 per channel or ₹5,00,000 for the full suite.
Step 2: Work out your start-up costs
For a white-label business on the Silver tier, the costs are: a ₹4,999 monthly platform fee; a ₹14,999 one-time brand launch fee, waived if you prepay 12 months of platform fee; the ₹30,000 one-time admin panel on Silver and Gold; and a ₹10,000 opening partner wallet, which is prepaid credit your clients' messages are debited from rather than a fee. All prices exclude 18% GST, and you need a GSTIN.
After that, you pay Botify only for active paid clients — a client in its 7-day free trial costs nothing — plus the usage your clients send.
Step 3: Pick a niche and build your packages
Generalists struggle to explain what they do. Pick one or two kinds of business you understand — clinics, schools, retailers, real-estate developers, coaching centres — and design two or three packages around their everyday needs: appointment reminders and follow-ups, admission enquiries, order updates, festive offers to opted-in customers.
Map each package to a Botify plan. Starter covers WhatsApp with one chatbot flow; Growth adds SMS, email, 10 chatbot flows and AI auto-reply; Pro adds every channel, the AI Sales Agent and AI voice, and needs the Gold tier.
Step 4: Price your service on three income lines
- Platform margin — the difference between the wholesale price of each client account and the price you charge
- Usage markup — you buy messages and calls at Botify list rates and may charge up to 25% more
- Service fees — set-up, template writing, chatbot building and monthly campaign management, all of which you keep in full
Step 5: Get compliance right from day one
Your reputation depends on your clients' numbers staying healthy. Send marketing templates only to contacts who have opted in, choose the right template category (it decides the cost), honour opt-outs, and follow WhatsApp's Business Policy. For SMS in India, sender registration on DLT is required. Botify's free partner training covers the platform side, and anti-spam pauses protect every number on the platform.
Step 6: Land your first clients
Start with businesses that already know you — existing customers, your professional network, local associations. Offer to set up a real use case in their 7-day free trial, so they see replies coming in before they pay. Botify onboards your first three clients' WhatsApp with you as part of the brand launch.
Start on Silver — monthly, and enough for your first 15 clients
Silver is designed for partners starting out: ₹4,999 a month on a monthly contract, up to 15 active clients, 40% off the Starter and Growth plans — WhatsApp, SMS and email.
You move up to Gold automatically at your 16th active paying client (all plans, RCS and AI voice, 45% off) and to Platinum at your 51st (unlimited clients, 50% off, Ads Manager, admin panel included).

How money flows in a white-label WhatsApp business
Your clients pay you: platform, usage and services, on your own GST invoices. You pay Botify: on the 1st of each month, the platform fee plus the wholesale price of every active client, billed in advance with GST claimable as input credit; and usage, debited live from your prepaid wallet.
Clients added mid-month are prorated. If you pay Botify late, your clients keep sending; after 7 days' grace only new-client creation pauses.

Questions, answered
A step-by-step guide: business model, start-up costs, pricing, compliance and first clients.
How much money do I need to start a WhatsApp marketing business?
With Botify's free Certified Partner or Affiliate programmes, nothing. For your own white-label brand on Silver: ₹4,999 a month platform fee, a ₹14,999 one-time brand launch fee (waived with 12 months' platform fee prepaid), the ₹30,000 one-time admin panel, and a ₹10,000 opening wallet that becomes your clients' usage credit. All excl. 18% GST.
How many clients do I need to break even on Silver?
It depends on the plan and your price. A Growth client at Botify's list price leaves a ₹1,400 monthly margin on Silver, so about 4 cover the ₹4,999 platform fee; at ₹3,999 the margin is ₹1,900 and 3 clients cover it. A Starter client at list leaves ₹600, so you would need about 9. Your service fees are extra.
Do I need a GSTIN?
For the white-label programme, yes — a GSTIN is required to join and to invoice your clients. In the Certified Partner and Affiliate programmes, Botify bills the client, so you don't invoice clients for the platform.
Do I need technical skills?
No coding is needed — the chatbot builder and campaign tools are no-code. Botify provides free training on the platform for you and your team, with a certification test at the end.
Can I run it alongside my job or existing business?
You can, as long as you plan for first-line client support: as a white-label partner you handle sales, onboarding, campaigns, templates, chatbots and billing, while Botify is second line.
Is WhatsApp marketing allowed in India?
Yes, through the official WhatsApp Business API and within WhatsApp's Business Policy: message people who have opted in, use approved templates in the correct category and honour opt-outs. Bulk SMS additionally requires DLT registration.
Can I switch from Certified Partner to white-label later?
Yes. You can start without a platform fee and move to your own brand once you have clients. Talk to the partnerships team about moving an existing book; existing Botify clients move to a partner only with Botify's consent.
