How to Get the WhatsApp Green Tick (Verified Badge) in India — 2026 Guide

Step-by-step guide to WhatsApp Business verification for Indian businesses: eligibility, Meta Business verification, documents needed, common rejection reasons, and how long it really takes.

By Ramnath G

The green tick (now shown as a blue verified badge in newer WhatsApp versions) next to a business name is the strongest trust signal on WhatsApp. Customers open verified-business messages more, click payment links with less hesitation, and report them as spam far less often. For a business that broadcasts offers or collects payments in chat, verification directly affects revenue. Here is exactly how it works in India in 2026 — including the parts most providers gloss over.

First: what the badge actually is

The verified badge tells customers that Meta has confirmed this WhatsApp Business account belongs to the authentic brand it claims to be. It appears next to your business name in chats, your profile, and message requests. It is only available on the WhatsApp Business API (not the free Business app) — which means the first step is being on the API through an official provider.

Eligibility — the honest checklist

  • You must be on the official WhatsApp Business API (Cloud API) via a Business Solution Provider
  • Your Meta Business Manager must be verified (this is the real gatekeeper — see below)
  • Your business should have a genuine public presence: a working website on your own domain, and ideally press mentions or an established brand name
  • Your display name must follow Meta's naming policy and match your real brand
  • A clean messaging record helps — accounts with high block/report rates get rejected

Step 1: Meta Business verification

Before WhatsApp will even look at your badge request, your Meta Business Manager needs to be verified. In India this means submitting documents that prove your legal entity and address: GST registration certificate, Certificate of Incorporation or Udyam registration, a utility bill or bank statement showing the business name and address, and access to a business email or phone for confirmation. Mismatched names are the #1 delay — the name on your GST certificate, your Business Manager, and your documents must align exactly.

Step 2: The badge request

Once Business verification is complete, the badge request is submitted for your WhatsApp Business account — either through your provider or via the WhatsApp Manager. Meta reviews your brand's notability: your website, your online presence, news coverage, and how recognisable the brand is. Decisions typically come in a few days to two weeks.

Why requests get rejected — and what to do

  • Not notable enough yet: common for newer businesses. Fix: strengthen your website, Google Business Profile and press presence, then re-apply after 30 days
  • Name mismatch between display name, legal documents and website branding
  • Unverified or partially verified Business Manager
  • Thin web presence: a parked domain or social-only presence usually fails

A rejection is not permanent — you can re-apply. Most businesses that tidy their documentation and web presence get approved on a later attempt.

What it costs

Meta charges nothing for verification itself. Beware of anyone selling 'guaranteed green tick' services — nobody outside Meta can guarantee approval. What a good provider does is prepare your documentation correctly, submit through the right channel, and time the application when your account health is strong. At Botify, verification assistance is included with every WhatsApp Business API plan — we handle the Business Manager verification and badge submission for you, and tell you honestly when your brand needs another month of groundwork first.

The realistic timeline

  • API onboarding with an official provider: same day
  • Meta Business verification: 2 days to 2 weeks (document-dependent)
  • Badge review after submission: a few days to 2 weeks
  • Total for a well-documented business: typically 1-4 weeks end to end

If your business is in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana or Andhra Pradesh and you want the badge handled properly — documents to submission — we do this every week for businesses across South India.
